Accounting Assistant / Junior Accountant
Join Our Growing Team
Principle Accounting & Consulting Services B.V. (PACS) is a growing professional accounting firm providing bookkeeping, payroll, tax compliance, financial statement preparation, corporate management, and business advisory services to a diverse portfolio of clients across Sint Maarten.
We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented and dependable Accounting Assistant / Junior Accountant to join our team. This position is suited for someone with a solid foundation in accounting who is looking to further develop their skills in a professional accounting environment.
The successful candidate will work with a diverse portfolio of clients and gain practical experience across bookkeeping, payroll, taxation, financial reporting and general business administration. As a growing firm, we value team members who take ownership of their responsibilities, follow assignments through to completion, communicate proactively and are willing to assist where needed to keep the office and our client work moving efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Performing bookkeeping for multiple clients.
- Recording and reviewing financial transactions.
- Preparing bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Maintaining accounts receivable and accounts payable records.
- Assisting with client payment processing and allocation.
- Processing payroll and assisting with payroll-related administration.
- Preparing monthly tax filings, including Turnover Tax and Wage Tax.
- Assisting with the preparation of annual financial statements.
- Assisting with Profit Tax Return preparation.
- Maintaining accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
- Following up with clients regarding outstanding documents and information.
- Maintaining assigned client files and monitoring outstanding matters.
- Taking ownership of assigned tasks and following them through to completion.
- Identifying discrepancies or incomplete information and escalating matters when necessary.
- Providing general administrative and operational support to the accounting team when required.
- Performing other reasonable accounting and office-related duties necessary to support the efficient operation of the firm.
Qualifications & Experience
We are interested in candidates who:
- Hold or are currently pursuing a degree or professional qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- Have practical bookkeeping or accounting experience.
- Have a good understanding of basic accounting principles.
- Have experience with accounting software; QuickBooks Online and/or QuickBooks Desktop experience is preferred.
- Are proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Are organized and able to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
- Demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail.
- Are dependable, professional and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Are comfortable communicating with clients and following up on outstanding matters.
- Are willing to learn and take on increasing responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications
The following would be considered an advantage:
- Previous experience within an accounting, bookkeeping or professional services firm.
- QuickBooks Online and/or QuickBooks Desktop experience.
- Payroll processing experience.
- Experience with Sint Maarten Turnover Tax, Wage Tax and Profit Tax.
- Experience assisting with the preparation of financial statements.
- Knowledge of Sint Maarten business and tax requirements.
- Dutch and/or French and Spanish language skills is a plus.
- Pursuing or interested in pursuing a professional accounting qualification.
